Field note
Agents vs chatbots
A tab someone remembers to open is not an operating system for the week.
Chatbots
Answers when you remember to ask.
Useful. Incomplete. Easy to confuse with transformation.
Chatbots wait. They draft when someone pastes a prompt. They summarize when someone opens the right tab. They do not own a queue, chase a missing approval, or finish a job while the team is on a job site.
That is fine for personal leverage. It is not how an owner-run business gets the week back. If the work only moves when a human remembers to ask, the leak is still in charge.
Agents
Work that runs inside your tools.
Schedules, inboxes, boards — with owners, standards, and a path when things fail.
Agents belong on real workflows. They start from a trigger, act in the systems you already use, and stop for human review where the stakes require it. Done means the job advanced — not that a chat window produced a clever paragraph.
The difference is not marketing language. It is architecture: process first, then automation that the week can rely on whether or not anyone opened a prompt box.
Put a number on it this week.
Thirty minutes on the path already costing you capacity, margin, owner time, or cash — and you leave knowing which one it is.
